Uranus and Roman Baths

Our Great British Adventure

April 22, 2018

Our destination for the day was Cardiff. As I've wanted to see the Roman Baths and Pump Room in Bath, we did a detour through there. The Baths are the only natural hot springs in England and were quickly utilised by the Romans, hence the name. Anthony, who had come down with a sore throat overnight, wasn't hugely enthusiastic - until he learned we could walk through Herschel's house and see the backyard from which Uranus was discovered. It's been turned into a nice little museum and we both enjoyed wandering through it.

After lunch we headed to Cardiff, which should have been a short, straightforward drive. Unfortunately we followed the GPS and not the signs, and it sent us on a massive 60+ mile detour up through Gloucester for absolutely no conceivable reason. We did get to drive through some misty hills, but still it was very annoying. We got to our destination eventually though, where it was 13C and sunny. Sadly, however, the heating wasn't working in our lodge. We reported it, but were told nothing could be done until the next day.
