Midnight Visitors

Don't feed them after dark

September 26, 2017

Possum in a tree

About midnight we heard a racket outside on the roof. At first we thought it was a possum (an occasional problem that gets trapped and relocated to the other side of Sapphire), but Anthony went out to investigate. He came back in to get me and the camera. There in the eaves next to the kitchen we found:

Tawny frogmouth

We think it was after mice - we're baiting one in the kitchen - but it looked very amusing when it next flew down to stare inside through our glass door into our lit lounge room.

Rufous bettong

We hear lots of noises at night. Geckos are everywhere catching insects. The cutest night visitors by far are the tiny rufous bettongs that take over the yard late at night looking for apple that we put out for the birds.
