Bats

Not in belfrys

February 1, 2020

We lost power at home one night while we were away in Rockhampton. Before we left Rubyvale we'd noticed this dead bat in the power lines near us and thought it might have caused an earlier brown out. When we got home it was gone, cleared by the electricity guys.

After the rains came a plague of flying ants. Many made it through the fly screen of the laundry door which we keep open for the cool easterly overnight breezes so Anthony decided it was time to replace the mesh with a much finer grade one. When he went to unhang the door he found an over full and sleepy bat.

He carefully removed the door and cut the mesh away. We hung it in a shady and protected spot on the verandah where it had a nap before heading off to wherever it lives.

It was incredibly cute.
