Visitors

Of the 4 footed kind

September 10, 2019

We regularly have four footed visitors. There is a herd of camels that roam around the area which had very cute (for camels) babies this year. They don't come in the gate but do sometimes sit down on our access track, which can be a bit tricky for us. That can't be said for the herd of cattle that also roams freely. We're in drought - we didn't have a wet season this year (or last) and it's bone dry so the animals are desperate for food. Enough so that our bougainvillea, with its 2cm thorns, is regarded as highly desirable. The pain and blood from eating it doesn't seem to matter:(

Several afternoons we have found this young lady outside the kitchen getting stuck into the shrubs. We herd her out and shut the gate but if we forget it then she's back. One evening Anthony was going out and had to cut off the whole herd which was streaming through the gate! He then chased 3 that made it through around the entire perimeter (with them grabbing bites of everything they passed) to get them out.

At night we are "entertained" by the possums jumping down onto the tin roof and then galloping across it. And back again. Several times. It's not uncommon for wallabies or bettongs or potaroos to pass through either. Recently, however, we did have a more uncommon visitor (at least, we've never noticed it here before): an echidna. Anthony was in his observatory when he heard a noise. Looking around it was an echidna brushing up against the outside as it wandered past.

Not in the back yard, but I saw 3 emus just up the road yesterday - the first I've seen here this year. It's a busy place, Rubyvale :)
