Exploring London

Our Great British Adventure

May 9, 2018

Anthony was preparing for his conference talk so I went out for a day of exploring on a Big Bus tour. It's a network of routes with jump on/jump off at any attraction on the way. For this first day I chose one which went up to St Pancras then back down to Covent Garden where I changed for the bus to Tower Hill. I walked around the Tower of London but decided against the tour through the inside. Instead I walked down to the river and caught the ferry up to Westminster and back. A change of ferry took my up to Greenwich, which was not worth it as all you can see are boring apartments; even Canary Wharf was visually unexciting.

Then it was back on the bus to Trafalgar Square and then home to Russell Square. I learned the hard way that although the sun in London is weak, 6 hours of sitting on the top of a double decker bus with no roof will result in sunburn.

London buildings

There was so much to see - a real mix of shiny and new sitting cheek and jowl with 17th century pubs and churches. I even saw a section of the original Londinium wall!
