New birds

The search for new species never stops

November 14, 2017

I leave my walking shoes outside so I always give them a shake before putting them on. It's rare that there's something in them so I was rather startled this morning when one shoe was a lot heavier than the other and even more startled when a cane toad fell out! Anthony just about fell over laughing before grabbing his phone for a photo, then grabbing the Dettol to give it a spray to kill it. I'm not going to live that one down for a while.

I went for a walk along the dirt tracks towards Rubyvale. Almost all of the waterholes are dry again - many didn't even begin to fill when we had all that rain a few weeks back. I always take a camera for potential new bird shots though and today I found a darter, white pygmy-goose and plum-headed finch to add to my collection.

I now regret not taking the time to search out all the colourful birds around Canberra and photograph them. There was always an excuse for not getting around to it.
