Flying Turtles

Anthony gives a helping hand

Oct 4, 2017

Out in the yard we noticed a little snake necked turtle determinedly marching across the gravel from our gate towards our dam. I took lots of photos of it, which it tolerated, then we debated what to do. There's a lot of difficult terrain (branches and tree litter) on the other side of the yard, but they're known for spitting a horrible smelling goo if you rile them.

In the end, Anthony carefully picked it up from above. Initially it drew its head in but after a few moments the head came back out and it seemed to enjoy its "flight" across the yard. The little flippers started moving at the sight of the dam, which was seriously cute. Anthony put it down beside the water and it wasted no time diving in.

I was supposed to be catching the lunchtime flight to Brisbane. My sister drove up from Port Macquarie and we're going to the Brisbane Craft and Quilt Fair together. The plane was cancelled - which they didn't bother to let us know about in advance despite the fact the incoming flight hadn't left Brisbane 2 hours earlier! In fact, it wasn't until the flight was due to leave that a problem was officially announced (although it was up on the boards earlier). I ended up transferred to the other airline's evening flight - which then ran 90 minutes late. Over 8 hours after arriving at the airport I was finally in the air.
